This evening we went over to some friends place to have a Christmas Party. Some people came from out of town just for this event and that was pretty awesome. My wife also had a Christmas Party this evening with her company and we planned on going to that as well. We visited only for a few hours at the friends Christmas Party and then left for the corporate Christmas Party. As we started to drive away I really didn’t have a great feeling about it, we were leaving our friends for a stupid corporate Christmas party. What also makes it worse is this company is closing it’s doors in the Edmonton branch. So in 2 weeks my wife won’t be working there anymore, SO WHY THE HELL ARE WE GOING TO THIS PARTY?? For what?! I started to get upset and told my wife that I’d like to go back. She understood and totally agreed that we should join our friends. So we turned around and went and said screw it to the corporate party, even though it would have been good food and such. The important thing is we spent it with close friends who care more about us then my wife’s company.
I think I owe this thought a lot to World Wide Group and the training and mentorship we’ve received from this company and our coaches and mentors. Its the shift in our thinking that helped me realize this company doesn’t give a shit about us and their stupid Christmas Party wasn’t the right place to be. It was with our friends. Had we not been associated with the people we associate with I honestly thing we would have gone to this Christmas Party.
Take a look at the decisions you make when it comes to work. What is more important? A work function? or being with friends and family?
