Average Canadian Household Debt Reaches $96,000

WOW! Read this early this morning about how the average Canadian family’s household debt rose to $96,000 last year.  That’s insane!  If this is you then you really need to have a change in attitude and get serious about your debt.  You need to ask yourself are you hanging around with these type of people?  Are you one of these people?  It’s okay if you are, and there are ways to get out of debt.  We’ve done it, we’ve paid of some high amounts of debt and nothing we did was revolutionary, it was just getting around people who thought differently.  Time to get real about debt Canada!

  1. I have always been a big believer in its not just what you make but what you owe. There are tons of people who are almost bankrupt, and they make huge salaries. People are far too fixated on “stuff”. I have never carried much debt and have always felt like I have had choices in life and that feels great. Credit is so easy to get and you can see what happened especially in the US with all of the greed – individually and corporate.

I agree with you Shaun that people need to learn to get a grip on their debt, it can become a big boat anchor that just drags you down.

I once heard it said that credit card debt was money you have spent that you haven’t even earned yet.

    • Yeah I’m unsure if it included both or if it was just consumer. I’m disappointed they didn’t clarify that.

Having said that, if it was consumer then yeah that’s HUGE and that’s ridiculous. People need to get serious about their debt.

A house while it may be considered a “Good Debt” I don’t believe that, is still debt.
