I recently listened to a leadership audio from John Maxwell where he was talking to a group of leaders with Wells Fargo and it really sunk in today for some reason. Part of his talk was about motivation and how we try to feel our way into action and the whole thing on self motivation. The biggest thing he said is how motivation isn’t going to hit you like lightning and how nobody can just give you motivation.
Forget motivation…JUST DO IT!
After you start doing the thing, that’s when motivation comes and makes it easy for you to do it. For example have you ever felt like you just don’t feel like running? Then you complain, ah I wish I had gone for that run and then you think like you wasted that chance? Well how about if you just get out there and do the run, then afterwards you feel pretty awesome and full of energy? I know that’s what I battle with all the time with running. So feeling follows doing what is right, but if you wait to feel to do what is right, half the time you won’t even do it.
Motivation is a curious thing, it’s so easy to fall off the band wagon and even harder to get back on. We tend to take the path of least resistance and that seldomly produces any results of any kind.
We are so blessed to have John Maxwell serve our business and provide us some great training on leadership. He really is an amazing teacher on leadership. Check out his blog here: John Maxwell on Leadership. His website here JohnMaxwell.com
