Spring Leadership 2011 in Review

Wow, I’m constantly amazed at how World Wide Group does things and this year’s Spring Leadership was phenomenal as was the last.  The most impactful things for me this year was John Maxwell’s talk on “Developing Teams – The Laws of Teamwork” and the non-denominational service on Sunday morning that is also led by John Maxwell.  There were a lot of great talks by upline Diamonds as well as Double Eagle Rubies (of which our direct sponsors/coaches were speaking) that were there to teach, uplift, motivate and inspire everyone.

I know I speak a lot of John Maxwell, so much my wife likes to think I have a man crush on him.  He’s an amazing leader, teacher, inspirational speaker, preacher, and best of all he endorses what we do with World Wide Dreambuilders, that is very awesome.  I’ve been reading so many of his books over the last few months and with each book I absorb so much however nothing is as impactful as seeing him live and getting to meet him in person while getting a few books signed.

This Leadership could not have come at a better time as it gets you fired up, motivated, inspired to move on and help our team move on as well so they can reach whatever goals they have.  I’m excited to take the teaching from John on Laws of Teamwork and apply them to our business and to our team.  We are very fortunate to have such an amazing person to tap into as I’m sure it would cost much much more to get this kind of teaching from him on our own.

Some good quotes from John were:

“The greatest gap between successful and unsuccessful people is the way they think”

"You are responsible for your attitude” Duh! So many people don’t realize this however.

“People with great attitudes have a teachable spirit”

One thing I did not know about John Maxwell and his organization Equip with the help of World Wide Dreambuilders, is they were the first organization on the scene of the Polish Political Tragedy to help with the massive loss of leadership.  They were in there helping out with the lack of leadership and equipping the leaders left over for the crisis and how to help rebuild what was lost.  That’s pretty damn impactful and I’m proud to be part of an organization that helps out in that way.

There was so much more at this event that I could go on and on, but the only way to take in the full experience is to actually go and find out for yourself.  Looking forward to next year’s already!

Choosing Your Attitude

Today I woke up and looked outside and it was cloudy, +13 (COLD), and dreary outside.  It’s August and I always think of August still being warm but not this year.  Apparently Edmonton has had a pretty crappy summer this year, the crappiest since the mid 90’s I heard from my brother in-law.  So weather usually affects me in a bit way, it determines my attitude sometimes and really can put me in a great mood if its blue skies and sunny and WARM, or a crappy mood if it’s like today.  I know it shouldn’t do this but it does and has for years.

I recently heard a audio file or maybe read in a book recently (cannot remember where, doesn’t really matter) about your attitude is what you choose it to be.  You are 100% in control of your attitude and how you feel about the things around you.  Weather as we all know is out of our control and yet so many people are affected by it.  I was so pissy this morning that I went on a tweet tyrant (maybe just one tweet) about how pissy I was and just needed to get it off my chest.  Did it do anything?  Not really, however it did make me instantly realize what I had just done and how I should be in better control of my attitude.  I reflected back on what I had heard/read about how you choose your own attitude.

bad_attitude So I guess that’s my inspiration for this blog entry today and why I’m writing about it.  First it’s helping me understand just exactly why my attitude is the way it is, or was. I’ve since changed my attitude this morning. And second what I can do about it.  I can continue to be a grump ass and just be pissed at the world because the weather is crappy or I can look on the bright side and choose to have a better attitude about it.  Like I’ve said I decided to be a bit more positive about it.  So how did I do that?

Well It’s been smoky in Edmonton since Thursday and because it has been cooler it’s been easier to deal with because its not hot and muggy.  Smoke + Hot + Muggy = The Suckage.  It also rained last night which helped get rid of the smoke and with that makes for a much better day.  So I guess there really is a positive in everything.  Do I still wish it was hotter, heck yeah.  I love the heat and I love summer.  Can we do something about that? Yup.  In 3 years we plan to move to Kelowna where they actually have a longer summer than in Edmonton and consistently have +30’s and above through the summer.  So while I bitch and complain about the weather here (or bitched and complained) I am actually going to do something about that in a few years.  :)

Its pretty awesome the power of reading as I mentioned in a previous post, it is what has helped me understand a lot about myself and how I deal with certain things.  So what I’m really getting at with this whole post is choose your attitude.  Is it really worth being all grumpy over something you cannot control?  Even if you can control it, is it worth all that energy to be pissy?  Nobody wants to hang around a pissy person.

Have a great Sunday!

New Book!

I’ve finished off a couple of books “Household Gold” and “Personality Tree”, you can find both of those on the right hand side of my blog with links.

I’m now onto “The Magic of Thinking Big”.  My wife just finished it last week and I figured I’d pick it up and see what it’s all about.  Right now I’m all about the input and getting good information, motivation, and success principals will only help make me more successful down the road.  When you listen to successful people you’ll notice that what comes out of their mouth is the product of the input and if you put garbage ideas and thoughts into your brain then the same thing comes out of your mouth.

Make sure to add this book to the list of books you read in 2010!  Check it out.

Both Sides of the Fence

Both Sides of the Fence

Last night and earlier this morning was quite the day.  Edmonton IBO’s and their guests had the change to be personally mentored by Brad and Julie Duncan.  Now this does not happen very often for a crown to be visiting a city and doing this however our up line’s Mike and Brandi Wagner have caught a lot of attention with the World Wide Dreambuilders association.  How?  Because they have built a VERY strong business.  They’ve build a business that is raising eyebrows right up the chain to people like Ron Puryear and Brad Duncan.
We Canadians are kicking this into gear and doing it right.   We are not just picking any old Joe to build the business, the people who are joining this team’s business are people with integrity and a hard work ethic.  It’s these people who have all helped to make this team so successful and why we are catching so much attention.

If you were one of the lucky people to have taken part in this session I urge you to take that motivation and use it right away.  While we are in Vancouver for the rest of the week we will for sure be using the new tools and teachings right away that Brad as taught us.  We are pumped!  Look out!

See below for some more pictures from the event.

The way I want it

I think I have the site the way I want to for now.  I’m new to WordPress so it’s going to take some time to get used to this layout and what I can and cannot do.  However from what i’ve heard there is not much that I cannot do with WordPress.

Time to stop the negativity!

Time to stop the negativity!

I’m really excited to start up this new blog which will be different from my personal blog on blogger.  I plan on this blog being very informative, from the heart and no bullshit.  There is to much negativity on “The Net” these days with a lot of pesemistic views and I intend to change that.
Stay tuned…
