Canadians Looking for a Business

EntrepreneurshipThe latest RBC Canadian consumer outlook states that 1 in 5 Canadians are thinking about starting their own business in the next 5 years.  To be honest I’m not surprised by this news article and the mentality of people these days.  People are looking for other opportunities outside of their full time jobs that hardly pay them enough.  Without question I hear it almost every day that people complain about not enough money, have bills to pay, not enough time in a day, want to spend more time with my family, I’m working two jobs just to make it, and it goes on and on and on.  Don’t believe me? Start opening your ears and you’ll hear it as well.

So out of this article what’s the biggest challenge to starting a business, getting enough money to start or expand.  28% of people said this was a concern.  It also says that 14% of people worry about getting clients and others feel it would take to long to turn a profit.  To be honest those numbers are pretty low when it comes to concerns and shouldn’t stop people from exploring the potential to reach whatever goals and dreams they have.

I just happen to know of a business opportunity that’s got a pretty low cost to running a business and know a few people who have been successful in helping others reach those types of goals and dreams.  Woah, low and behold that opportunity is the Amway business opportunity.  Surprised?  If you’ve been reading this blog you shouldn’t be, if your new maybe you are then.  What other business can you start that doesn’t require a loan at the bank of some business grant from the government?  Not very many, in fact I don’t know any outside of this opportunity.

Our business is backed by an amazing company that has been around for over 50 years and is continually growing in revenue year after year.  So if your worried Amway is going to pack it in with the reception, you better give your head a shake.  It’s not going anywhere but up.

We’ve got great brands such as Nutrilite and Artistry that are tops when compared to the competitors and are products that people use every single day month after month, so clients are not hard to find, at least for us anyway.  Our business is based on helping others succeed first before we do and coaching & mentoring people through the business as many who start don’t know how to run a business.  I know the government sure isn’t mentoring you through a business that’s for sure.

Anyway the thing is people are looking for opportunity outside of what they are doing and that’s what entrepreneurship is cool. You are given that freedom to build however large of a company you want with little roadblocks and restrictions, and because you run a business your entitled to some pretty substantial tax benefits as well.  I’m not going to sit here and say you have to build this business, but this business does work and compared to other start-ups is pretty darn cheap to get into and has mentorship like no other with World Wide Dreambuilders.

Cost of Business

So I was thinking this past weekend, as we were booking our flights to Portland for this year’s Family Reunion, the costs to run our business.  Now being a sceptical person I keep records for every single expense related to our business and keep a running total to make sure that we are actually making money over what we spend to run our business.  I do not include the products we buy because 95% of the products we buy are products that we already bought before.  Examples, Multi-Vitamin, Protein Bars, Granola Bars, Water, Energy Drinks, Cleaning products, etc.. That’s all stuff we bought and as a business owner you shop from your own store.

tax_3 So going back to our hard business costs such as our voicemail system, our digital audio files, books, any business related marketing tools, conferences that we attend, local functions that we go to… ALL of that are for the most parts the cost of doing business.  I may break it down at the end of the year but probably not because our costs of doing business will differ from other people’s because not everyone uses all the tools and people build different business’s.  However the best thing about all of that, 100% tax write offs.  We did our taxes last year and were able to write off every thing that was related to our business.  That even includes any samples we gave and KM’s we drove to any meetings that we had.  We basically got a cheque back from the government and that cheque covered ALL our costs.  So those who say “the tools are a scam”, well I don’t know what to tell you but as a cost of business they were covered by my cheque back from the government.

However having said all of that what business do you know doesn’t cost money to run?  Last time I checked it costs traditional business’s like McDonalds, Shoppers Drug Mart, Banana Republic, Gap, etc… TEN of THOUSANDS of dollars a month to operate.  They also have employees to manage and pay, lease payments for a building, and a whole whack of other expenses to pay out.  We have roughly a FEW thousand dollars to run and 1000% less headache to worry about.  Based on that it just makes sense and honestly how can you argue that.  I’m sure you’ll try, however this is my own experience and what we are doing. What others do or claim to have done may or may not be what was recommended or advised and if you read it, take it with a grain of salt.

So to wrap it up, does this business cost money to run? Absolutely!  Do you get to write it off on taxes? YES.  I did it, I got the cheque!  Next year when I file, I’ll post the cheque as proof for the seeing is believing folk out there.  All business’s cost money to run, just depends on what kind of business your in.

Taking Ownership of Your Business

This month I finally really take ownership of our business.  How do I do that?  Well by showing the plan of course.  What that means for people not in the know ;) is I pretty much talk about why Lindsay and I are building this business, some of our experiences thus far, I then talk about why the internet and how the internet is changing the way marketing is done, and then finally showing the business overview.

Now that we have people in our organization it’s time to start investing time into them and one of the ways we do that is by showing the plan at their place for their guests.  We also do some training afterwards and really just see how our team is doing and where they are.  It’s a great evening where we just get to talk about what we are doing and why.  That’s really the single most important thing about showing the plan.  If you don’t have that need, want and desire to do something more with life, goals and dreams then really the actual meat and potatoes of the plan won’t matter.

Even if you don’t decide to build this business, whatever business or thing you do, you really need a reason.  You need that drive or that passion to do something more in life otherwise no matter what opportunity comes your way you won’t do it.

So I’m pretty pumped to really open my heart and share with people what excites me about this business.  I really truly am passionate about what we are doing and the people we are going to impact in a HUGE way.  I cannot even begin to express the amazing opportunity that we have to share, I honestly believe that with everything I am.  With some short term hard work we can really set our future up for success and impact thousands of people.  I really am blessed.
