Goals, Dreams, and Aspirations oh my!

I’ve always been a goal setter even before getting involved with World Wide Dreambuilders and Amway.  However I think the biggest thing I’ve learned is putting those things in the forefront.  My post today is actually inspired by @KimLiving who’s blog is http://www.mynaturebaby.ca/blog/.  She posted last night that she was working on building a life board.  Check it out here.  Kim, I hope you don’t mind me sharing, however you did publish it publicly so I figure that’s okay.

Anyway I love seeing things like this and it’s the same concept of having your goals and dreams done the same way.  Having what you want out of life and making it visual will only make it that much more real and that much more easier to obtain.  Things like “celebrate every moment”, “be your best”, and this one “make a lasting impression” are amazing quotes of affirmations.  Kim, you have actually inspired me to revisit some of the things around our house and update and add to what we have already on our walls and fridge.  So thank you!

I fully believe everyone who is serious about the goals, dreams, and aspirations they have in life should make them visual.  Pick up a success book of any kind and when you talk about these things they all say to write them down or make them visual.  They all have different percent’s of how much more likely you’ll achieve them but any percent above 0 is good in my books.  It’s kind of a no brainer however some people will just make fun of you for doing it.  That’s fine, your not building your life for them, your doing it for you so just ignore the naysayers and as I like to call them “dream stealers”.

We actually have a budget for magazines so that we can do something like what Kim has and since it’s now September we are going to head down to Whyte Ave, probably to http://www.hubnews.ca/ and check out some new magazines to expand our dreams and things we want.  Thanks Kim for the added inspiration.

Dreambuilding with Friends

Last night we had some amazing friends over who are building this amazing business with us and we asked them to share what their dreams and goals were and why really they are building this business.  It was pretty inspiring and you really don’t fully understand your friends or people for that matter until they open their heart and share the dreams and goals they have for life and where they want to end up.

We also had the chance to share with them because they had asked us and when I watch my amazing wife share what she wants in life it’s pretty amazing.  She really opens up her heart and ends up getting teary because she wants it so bad.  That’s what it takes, you really need to want something bad enough that it hurts in order for it to come to fruition.

It really got me thinking again about our goals and what we want in life and I figured I’d put those things down again.  I always love writing them out because it really gets me thinking and honestly just shows you the kinds of things that will be available in what we are doing.  We know this because we’ve seen it first hand in our coaches and also their coaches and beyond.

This year we will have Lindsay retire from her job and never have to work for another man again.  She will no longer have to work for someone that tells her when she has to be in to start her day, no longer tells her when she can have lunch and really no longer has control over her paycheque.  Of course she will still work but it will be working on our future through our business. So maybe it’s semi-retired.  :)   Either way she will now be home to raise our kids when we have them and won’t need to drop them off at a dayhome or daycare.  WE will be raising our kids and instilling our values into them, not someone else.  That is goal number one for us right now and why we are spending a lot of time building our business.

We also want to become debt free as some of my previous posts have shown and we will achieve that this year.  We are making some tough choices and really streamlining our life so that we can get the most out of it for the short term.  There will be some sacrifices however having a shot term mentality doesn’t work for us because we have HUGE long term goals and the old adage small term pain for long term gain really applies.  I know some people reading this know that for sure.

Moving on with our life we want to move out to Kelowna where we may end up renting for another year or two while we have our house built and paid for in cash.  Renting isn’t necessarily a bad thing as we will end up saving far more then what equity would be build up in our house and with how much we’d be paying down in our mortgage.  We will end up raising our kids out in Kelowna and either put them in private school or have them home schooled with a personal teacher.  Our kids will get first hand teaching instead of being in a school full of 30-40 kids where it takes 10 times longer to teach kids because the class can only go as fast as the slowest kid.  By this time I will have also walked away from my job and will be at home raising my kids as well.  Being able to take them out in the afternoon and go hiking or skiing for their physical education instead of a 60 minute class at school.  How cool is that?

Lastly family is key for us and we want to be able to spend a lot of time with our family so as we continue to grown our business we will help to retire our parents before they need to.  When you really look at what it would take to retire them you start to get a sense of, we can do that.  They don’t need to work or be on the “Work till you die program”.  We want our parents to enjoy as much time with our kids and our family as possible.  No longer will their be handcuffed to their jobs so they cannot see their grandchildren grow up.

These are just some short term goals that we have in the next little while and as we continue to grow this business where the work we did a year ago is still paying us today, we will continue to help other people do the same as us and help them realize they too can achieve dreams and goals like this or whatever their dreams and goals are.  We fully believe this is possible and we will make it happen.

Obviously we have much more dreams and goals then this, but this is just the start for The Guthrie’s and we could not be more excited to be doing what we are doing.  We have been blessed for sure!

Christmas Dreaming

I’ve always loved the Christmas Season.  It really is a magical time of year with the snow on the ground, and in Edmonton’s case A LOT of snow on the ground, and the smell of fireplaces in the air.  Right from when I could remember I’ve always liked decorating, eating Christmas baking (notice how I didn’t say baking), wrapping gifts, giving gifts, being with family and friends, and new this year giving back to the community.

The one thing I’ve always dreamed of during the Christmas season is to have everyone over for the Christmas weekend.  Just like you see in those movies like “The Family Stone” (MINUS Sarah Jessica Parker’s Character) and “Christmas Vacation”.  I want to have a big family and even better have a big house to hold everyone for the holiday.  There is just something special about having family arrive through the day to a house that smells like pine from the HUGE HUGE Christmas Tree in the living room.  If the family has to come in from far we will pay for the travel because it’s important to have family together regardless of cost.

At night the house will be all lit up and able to see for miles! :)   I’ll have a huge skating rink in the back yard so that everyone can skate, and if you don’t have skates we will have skates of all sizes for everyone!  There will be a fire pit near the rink so people can warm up or just sit by the fire and catch since the last time they saw each other.  The backyard will be lined with pine trees and all lit up as well and will be one of the most beautiful backyards you’ve ever seen.  I’ll even plow snow up so there is a small toboggan hill for the kids to slide down!

Christmas Eve will be like it has been for years where we just drink wine, play board games where the men will beat the women (that’s for you mom), and just sit around the floor to ceiling fireplace that will be roaring with warmth and have stockings for each and every person that is there, including the dog and cats.  Everyone will slowly trail off to bed and after Santa Clause has delivered his presents we all wake up bright and early to see what the big guy has left for everyone.  There will be no drawing of names, no gift exchange, EVERYONE will have gifts for everyone else.  The tree will be filled and you won’t even be able to touch the tree.  Now gifts are not everything so by the afternoon we will have been given names of families around the town we live in that are less fortunate and will deliver gifts to these houses.  I will have organized and arranged for all the gifts personally and everyone that shows up for the weekend will have a house to deliver to.  It will be the Guthrie’s way of giving back to those families in need.  After a great afternoon of giving back everyone will come back to the house and get ready for an amazing Christmas dinner.  It will be a feast like no other and everyone will be around a HUGE table laughing and just having a great time.

I could go on with so many more details but you get the picture.  I’ve thought about this a lot in the last 4-5 years and this will be a dream that will come true.  This is a dream that honestly without the business we are in would not be possible.  I can clearly see this dream, this vision for my future Christmas’s and almost brings a tear to my eye when I think about it because it means so much to me to do.  To be able to buy presents for everyone, fly people in that need to be flown in, buy presents and get them delivered for the less fortunate, have the house to hold everyone, skating rink in back yard, toboggan hill, etc… all of this (to the standard of my dream) would not be possible without this business.  With all that I’ve listed here in this blog post how can I say no to a business that will allow me to obtain this?  There is no turning back and no failure, there is only the future and moving ahead, staying true to this business and being core.

Merry Christmas and to you and yours this holiday season!

I’d love to hear what your dreams are for the Christmas holiday, Christmas season, or for your family in general.

Dreambuilding

Over the weekend I put up a bunch of pictures of materialistic things I want and also put up some pictures of the area we want to live in.  Why do I do this?  Well for one it’s to help dreambuild.  If you’ve ever been around people who are successful you’ll notice they put up words of affirmation, pictures of things they want, or goals they want to achieve.  It’s basically dreambuilding 101.  You’ll find though the majority of people out there won’t do this and it’s a shame.  You need to visually see what your goals and dreams are in order to obtain them.  It’s a driving factor or a motivational tool that really does work.

My Brand New 2003 Ford Ranger FX4 Level II

Before joining this business I used to do that.  In fact my mother taught me that.  I really wanted a 2003 Ford Ranger FX4 Level II.  It was the fully loaded version of the Ford Ranger.  It was around $36,000 CDN and I originally thought i’ll never be able to get that vehicle.  I had so much student loan debt and other debt that there was no possible way.  My mom basically said put up a picture of your goal so that you see it every day and have something to work towards.  So I did exactly that.  It was one of the few times I actually stopped being an ass and listened to my mother and it paid off.  I stuck to my debt reduction plan and paid off my debts and loans and was able to build up enough credit to buy the vehicle myself without my mother co-signing.  I didn’t pay for it all in cash, I would have liked to (our next vehicle will be in cash) however I was able to put it on a 0% financing so all my payments went directly to the principal.  It sure felt good to actually accomplish something like that all from a picture.

So that’s why we have pictures and words of affirmation around our house.  When you come into our condo you’ll see words like “Overcome”, “do the opposite of the masses”, “The best is yet to come”, “Play Injured”, “Are you living a dream, or just living your life”, “Break through the wall of fear”, “The Guthrie’s are all in” and more.  We believe these things motivate us and give us a dream.  Then you’ll see stuff on our fridge like pictures of Kelowna where we want to live, Wineries, because we love wine, in my office you’ll see a picture of a Breitling Chronomat B01 watch because that’s the watch I want, you’ll see magazines with inspirational things in them that relate to us.  It’s these things that keep our dreams alive.

It’s so important to do this whether you are building this business or not.  This what i’m writing about is part of the 95% of what we do with World Wide Dreambuilders.  The 5%, the Amway Global portion is the vehicle for the 95%.  You need a dream, goals and passion so that you have something to work towards.

We’ve got BIG dreams, and so should you!
