Amway Receives Award for Easter Seals Efforts

Making a Difference AwardOn Monday Amway Canada received the “Making a Difference Award from the Direct Sellers Association of Canada.  Now Amway gets a lot of awards and recognition for the work they do in many areas of the world however I wanted to highlight this one because its actually directly related to the Easter Seals Drop Zone fundraising that I am doing.

“The “Making a Difference” award is for the efforts in support of Easter Seals Canada, as part of the Amway One By One Campaign for Children. The award is bestowed upon a company that has made a profound difference in communities across Canada, and the selection is based upon the company’s level of involvement in the community, its effort relative to its size, and the company’s vision and motivation.

Amway Canada has been a proud sponsor of the Easter Seals Drop Zone since its inception. Drop Zone events – held in 12 cities across the country – allow “everyday superheroes” to raise funds for the privilege to rappel down some of Canada’s tallest buildings. Over the past five years, Amway Canada and its independent business owners have raised over $350,000 for Easter Seals Canada. The funds remain in the communities from which they’re raised and help support children and families with disabilities and special needs.”

This award is pretty cool as its this amazing company (Amway) that supports the Easter Seals which is also the same organization I’ve raised almost $2,000 dollars for this year for enhancing the quality of life of Albertans with disabilities and special needs.  I’m glad we are able to share in the same vision of Amway of helping others as that’s honestly where our hearts are at and why we love doing what we do with our business.

If you’ve not had a chance to stop by my fundraising page to donate please do. You can check it out here:

Easter Seals Update & To Be Square or Foursquare

So this is a two part update one on Easter Seals and the second on my week long test of Foursquare.

As for Easter Seals I’ve reached a milestone of just over $1,500 or 43% of my goal.  It significant because I can now take part in the actual Drop Zone where I’ll rappel down the Sutton Place hotel in Edmonton.  I’m VERY excited to have reached this milestone however we are still just under $2,000 from raising the goal of $3,500. I’ve put out a challenge to my whopping 200 friends on Facebook if they could just bag a lunch one day, or maybe cut out 3-4 Starbucks coffee’s one month, they could donate $20 dollars each which would raise $4,000 dollars.  If you reading this wanted to jump on that challenge all the power to you. The power of numbers working right there! To sum it up, in 2 weeks we’ve been able to raise $1,500, that’s pretty cool.  If anyone has suggestions on how to raise money or has done something like this I’m all ears.

Again you can see my donation page here -

n13foursquare

Some could say I’m a social media junkie, however I’m not as crazy as most people out there that really live their whole lives online.  I cannot do that, I need to meet real people face to face.  I do respect that people born today and in the last 10 years have really been borne into this type of communication.  So my latest foray into the social media spectrum was Foursquare and I said I’d give it a week to try it out.  Well it’s been a week and to be honest I’ve yet to see the point of this social media site.  The main idea is to “check in” to the places you visit. You don’t get anything other then points which mean nothing.  You can also get badges for different amounts of check in’s depending on the place you visit.  Basically it’s sharing your location with friends which is about the same as sharing that your about to visit the bathroom.  If I wanted to share my location I can easily do that on Twitter or Facebook which are my main social media applications.  Foursquare really is a narcissistic site which assumes that people are interested in the places you visit when really, 99.9% of them could care less.  I guess if Foursquare actually gave you something tangible in return then maybe it would be worth it, but becoming a Mayor at the place you work? LOL really?  Becoming the Mayor of a coffee shop? What point is that really?  Nobody cares that you checked in, you don’t get anything but some silly points which you cannot use for anything.  Might as well give me 10000 points cause it means jack sh*t.

With that I’ve closed my Foursquare account because its just one more thing to check, one more thing that takes me away from real life, and one more time waster.  Peace out Foursquare.

Easter Seals Drop Zone Update

DropZoneJust a quick update here on my Easter Seals progress.  It’s been less than a week since I started and we are at 20% raised already! That’s amazing progress so quick! 10 people have been so kind and selfless to donate for a total of 700 bucks.  We are just getting started and have no doubt in my mind we will reach that $3,500 goal for this year.

If you are wanting to update and have not yet, please check out the link below for online donations.  If you want to donate in person drop me a line and I’ll be happy to collect that way too!

Easter Seals Drop Zone Ramp Up

DropZoneBanner

Well it’s now June and that means there are three months until September 6th, 2011 when I’ll be taking the plunge over the Sutton Place Hotel in Edmonton. Time is sure creeping up fast and before you know it, September 6th will be here so I figured I should ramp up my fundraising efforts.  Again I want to say thank you to all the people who sponsored me last year, those donations I know have gone to a great cause to help Albertans with disabilities.

So I’m asking for help once more to support me in this great endeavour where I will get out of my comfort zone and do what most people won’t do, rappel of the side of a very large building to raise money for Albertans that are far more deserving than me.

I know this blog has a pretty far reach and you may not know me personally but I’m asking if you can see it in yourself to donate as you’d be doing a selfless deed and helping others that need it more than us.

You can donate through my page here:

Don’t know what the heck this is all about or what I’ll be doing? Check this link out that shows my last year rappel. http://vimeo.com/17180137

Thank you in advance for stopping by and I appreciate your donation!

Easter Seals 20!!

DropZone2011

Today I got a little fired up over the 2011 Easter Seals campaign that has already started.  By the way you can login and register here.  I’m fired up because I got to spend some time on the phone with one of the sponsors of this event and provide some feedback from last year.  In case some of you didn’t know Amway is a national sponsor of this event as well Amway has been involved with Easter Seals for many many years.  I love the fact Amway is heavily involved in the community with such events like Easter Seals, Skate Canada and Canadian Soccer and pours TONS of money into each one of them.

2011 is going to be a great year and much better than last year.  Last year I raised almost $2,000 singlehandedly and was able to rappel of the Sutton Place hotel.  This year we will raise at minimum $50,000 by involving this whole Canadian IBO market!  There is power in numbers and really that 50K is on the VERY low side.  I’d love to hit $100,000 or more and who knows, maybe I should shoot higher… we shall see.  Either way $50,000 is pretty big considering last year they raised just over $100,000 for everyone in the Edmonton area.

Regardless of how much money we raise this will go towards a great cause, the Easter Seals.  Best of all this money stays in Alberta and that’s pretty important.  Many other organizations will spread that around through the whole organization and by the time it gets out there its so small.  So staying in Alberta is pretty cool.

If you don’t know what Easter Seals is about, do check out The Cause, but if you don’t here is a small snippet. Easter Seals is committed to enhancing the lives of people with disabilities.  They have fully accessible camps where kids and youth learn about themselves and the potential of their abilities.  The facilities are designed to ensure that everyone, no matter their disability, has the support they need to have the time of their lives, gain confidence and a sense of independence, challenge themselves and cultivate meaningful friendships.

Anyway there will be updates through the year until September when I rappel again and I’ll give updates of how the fund-raising goes.  If you want to sponsor me already you can do so here: My Sponsor Page. If you know of others who would love to, please pass this link on.

EDIT/UPDATE: And it’s catching on! Awesome!  Good Luck on your fund raising Colin. http://benchmarkitconsulting.com/colin-stasiuk/2011/02/08/want-to-feel-really-good-today/
