Having an Impact

I’ve often mentioned how we want to have an impact on people and our business that utilizes the Amway Business Opportunity and World Wide Dreambuilders allows us to accomplish that in so many ways.  Last night was just another reminder of the real impact we have on people we are in business with and how those people can actually in turn impact us.

A couple in our business got married yesterday late afternoon at the MaGrath Mansion on Ada Boulevard here in Edmonton which is one of the prime spots for outdoor weddings.  Such a beautiful and elegant setting which was a total fit for this couple and highlighted the amazing people they are.  This is a couple that has taken a lot of values from World Wide Dreambuilders and incorporated them directly into their lives and it is apparent with how in love they are, how much they smile all the time (I don’t know any other couple that smiles this much), and how solid of a relationship they have.  They’ve mentioned many times that the path they were on before getting involved with WWDB was a path that would have taken them an additional 4 to 5 years before getting married.  While that may be fine for some people, after seeing great examples of some pretty solid marriages they decided there was no reason to wait that long and well the rest is history.

This couple is great at putting things into practice like paying for a wedding in cash and not going into debt for a wedding.  I won’t say how else things are going for them financially but making decisions like this will lead them into a debt free lifestyle very soon.  We are very proud of them and others on our team that are doing these same types of decisions.  There are a few more weddings coming up in our business and all of them are being paid for in cash.  Much different from the norm that you see where people go into HUGE amounts of debt for one day.

I mentioned earlier how this couple impacts us, they impact us by inspiring us to smile each and every single day as they always do.  They inspire us to continue to work on our marriage and express love like they do.  This is just one of many examples this couple and other couples and singles on our team inspire and impact us.  Its those qualities of people that inspire us that we look for when building our team.  We don’t just want to impact people ourselves but we want to be impacted and inspired from the people we work with.  That’s why we don’t just “sign” people up for the sake of it.

Once dinner was done the speeches started and it was at this point we saw the impact we and other upline have made on this couple.  To be invited to their wedding and reception along with family and friends is a great honour and we were very blessed to be part of the day.  They wanted us to be there because we are like family to them and have helped them through many tough decisions and directions in life.  It was quite apparent the impact we made when not only my wife and me were mentioned in a special shout out but quite a few of their upline as well in front of family and friends.  While their family and friends may never really understand the impact, they do and I am so proud to see them married and starting their life off in such a positive way.

Our business while rudimentary is an online webstore however there are so many intangible things that comes with what we do.  It’s the system of World Wide Dreambuilders (WWDB) that helps us create life long friends and people who inspire us.  I cannot even begin to explain the things I’ve received from this amazing association but I can tell you I thank God every day for our life, where we are and where we are going.  I’m glad that He was able to remove my cloud of scepticism after 5 months to allow me to see something I would not have normally seen.  Sometimes what we are looking for doesn’t come in the packages we expect. Something I think all of us need to keep in mind when opportunities present themselves.

Giving Back

volunteerLast night was our Edmonton Regional where Mike and Barb Popovich came in to do some training during the afternoon and then in the evening, show what it is that we do by showing the plan and then they told their story and shared some successes they’ve had.  It’s also where we have the pin recognition where people cross stage at different PV levels.  Most pin crossings from what I’ve gathered are pretty quick maybe 15 minutes or so.  Our pin crossing this time was an hour plus!  So there is major growth in this area and as they say “the proof is in the pudding”.

What really impacted me from last night wasn’t the pin recognition, it wasn’t the training, it wasn’t the plan, it was Mike talking about how they give back on a constant basis.  That struck me big time because Lindsay and I feel the same way and we want to make sure we give back now and give back more when we make even more money.  There are many amazing things you can do with money, and that doesn’t make it evil.  Its what you do with it and we plan to do some pretty cool and impactful things even with what we have now.  I’ve already talked about some smaller things we’ve done on “Seeing Our Donation in Action”, and my current campaign for Easter Seals on my Drop Zone Page.  However I’m talking about doing some impactful things to people in need on a regular basis and not just waiting for certain organizations to do their fundraising drives.

See what I love about getting around the people we get to hang around with is that you start to open your mind to the possibilities that are out there.  The people I hang around with at work or even some of my closest friends don’t think about this kind of stuff.  Things like giving back to families that are unfortunate or kids that go without new clothes, underwear or shoes for years.  I know my current job allows me to live comfortable but doesn’t allow me to write a $5,000 cheque to needy family to put new clothes on their kids and get them some much needed supplies/food/etc… I know that when people are in debt themselves they rarely will look outwards and be more giving.  They will put any extra money on debt or just spend it frivolously. I’m really not doing justice to what I heard last night but we are going to impact communities with what we are building and that is worth fighting for and that is worth putting in the work to make this amazing business opportunity work.

I’ve always been saying here that my main focus is my family and that’s why we build this business, but I’ve been adding in the giving back as a very very close second and that is a primary reason why we build this now.  Say what you will about his business, be it a “scam”, “pyramid scheme” (which are illegal by the way and 52 year old companies that make 9.2 Billion don’t get away with illegal operations in over 82 countries and partner with companies like Best Buy, Sears, and the Detroit Red Wings. I think their lawyers did more research about this company then what you did before joining with Amway.  Come on this isn’t the 70’s, take your head out of your…), or whatever else you want to say, my reason for building this far out weights your negative attitude towards what we do.  I’m building this to give back and help people achieve what it is they want to, be it giving back or whatever reason they want.  That is powerful and nobody can steal that away from us.

The Power of People

apple-ipadI had a funny feeling that Erron over at http://erron.wordpress.com would reach their goal of 60 charms to solidify them receiving an iPad for their autistic son Elijah.  What surprised me was just how fast she did it.  In less than 12 hours she was able to spread her cause and challenge through her blog, through tweets and re-tweets, facebook and other posts on friends blogs such as this one.

What is even more amazing is how quickly people can come together and rally behind something like this and how far out it reaches.  Erron pointed out she had friends of friends who she has no idea who they were buy charms via the masses of Facebook.  Pretty cool.  I’m not sure if this blog produced any purchasers of charms however I think spreading the word that iPad’s can help children with Autism is just as powerful.  This blog has never been 100% about me building our business with Amway or the training system of World Wide Dreambuilders, this blog and what we are about is impacting people in a positive way.  What we were able to do by helping Elijah reach his goal of getting an iPad was mission accomplished.  This business allowed us to do that and for that I am grateful.

So what’s next for Erron, Elijah and family?  Well the overwhelming success has prompted them to shoot a bit higher then their original goal and hit 120 charms sold.  With that they will win another iPad which they plan to donate to a family with an autistic child to help that child communicate and learn.  It’s the whole pay it forward in action.  I know with the amazing support you’ve already received you’ll achieve your second goal and be able to donate that second iPad to another family that would be most deserving.

“Those of you who know me know I love to talk, get me on the phone and you’ll have to end the conversation because I won’t.  Gabbity gab gab. But right now I’m in front of my keyboard and I don’t know what to write.  I’m talking about the success of the iPad fundraiser from this post:

The post where I ask you for 20 bucks (don’t worry you get something)

I’ve said it to a few of you, Thank you seems much too small.  Yesterday we hit 60 people committed to purchase  in our fundraiser to earn an iPad for our family, Elijah specifically…….”

Do You Have A Plan For Retirement?

retirement According to David Dodge most Canadians are not, and I believe him.  It’s apparent because of how many people lead a careless irresponsible debt ridden lifestyle.  We are in a recession (even with this short upswing) and people are spending money like it’s going out of style. People are just not getting it and are living in the now.  Check out this article – CBC News Link.  Basically the biggest item from this article is Canadians need to save between 10 and 22 per center of their PRE-TAX incomes each year for at least 35 years.

This is just one out of many reasons why we’ve decided to build an amazing business with amazing people.  We want to secure our future and if we have to put in hard work over the next 2 to 3 years to make that happen then we will.  See the thing about “Retirement” is once you are retired you now have to watch your money.  You cannot live the same lifestyle you may have lived before.  You have little money coming in and you are basically pulling money from the pile you worked 40 years to create.  Oh and then the best is when people say “I’m downsizing”.  Why should you have to downsize?  If you retire at 65 years you potentially have another at least 20-30 years to live.  Why would you downsize and live somewhere you really don’t want to?  Wouldn’t you rather have a residual income coming in so that you can live the lifestyle you want?

One amazing thing I love about what we do is that we can build an amazing legacy for our children.  Sure there is some hard work up front like I said but I’d love to be able to work hard and then make sure my children and my children’s children are secure with financial freedom.  How cool is that?  Can you pass down your JOB to your children when you die? Don’t think so.  So if there was just one reason to build this, that would be a pretty damn good one.

Check out this article and really take a hard look at your life and see if you are in a vehicle that will allow you to have financial freedom, will allow you to have a dignified lifestyle well into your 80’s.  Some people have their own vehicle and as I’ve told them I respect that but one thing we agree on is there are A LOT of people who don’t and it’s those people that need help.  It’s those people we want to impact and help them setup a legacy for themselves and their family.  That’s a pretty amazing goal in my opinion.

Lastly what’s up with all those ads with old people being depicted as retired. Who said you have to be old to be retired??

Off to Kamloops

Kamloops
Tomorrow we leave to Kamloops for 5 days to visit my parents and just get out of the city.  At the same time we are looking forward to meeting some new people in the Kamloops region and who knows maybe someone who is looking for an opportunity.  I’d love to get business in Kamloops and bring the awesome association we have to the Kamloops area.  World Wide Dreambuilders teaches that we just get to know new people with no motive behind it.  The Guthrie’s are about impacting people in a positive way.

We already have a meeting setup with a lady my mom ran into at the local Shoppers Drug Mart that she’s looking to replace some handles on some cookware that her parents bought a long time ago from Amway Global.  She said her parents LOVE the products but the handles have worn out and needs new ones.  To my surprise we have spare handles on our store! LOL so we are able to serve this lady and get her new handles.  So who knows, maybe something good will come of that, if not at least we were able to serve her.

However the biggest reason we are going out there is to see my parents and to get away and relax.  Have some “margin” days as we call it.  We will still be core, but our main focus will be visiting and spending some quality time with my parents who I don’t get to see very often since they moved out there.  Looking forward to some hiking, some sleeping in, good coffee conversation and possibly letting my parents know more about what we do.  They kind of have an idea but they don’t really know and they are interested to hear what the 95% of what we do is.  They just see the 5% of what we do as our clients and are really good at that :) Thanks MOM!  But they don’t fully understand the 95% of what we do and I’m excited to let them know.

Anyway I’ll maybe do a blog post on Sunday after we’ve been there a few days.  Have a great Easter Weekend wherever you are or whatever you are doing!
