Motivation – Inspiration

Earlier this evening Lindsay and I watched a few minutes of “The Biggest Loser” before heading out for the evening and while watching it they were saying some staggering facts where 2 out of 3 Americans are obese, not just overweight but obese!  They then picked three people from each city they went to so they could compete in this competition.  All the other people that were not picked were all saying how they were going to start to loose weight and get into better shape and all of them knowing they need to do that.  However most will just go back to the same thing they were doing before that caused them to be obese.  Now I’m not going to get into those reasons, that’s a whole other topic I’m not discussing on this blog.  They will loose motivation and the inspiration they got from being around the ability to get on the show will soon fade.  It’s that constant motivation and inspiration that keeps people going.

self-motivation So how do they people on the show loose weight?  It’s not just simply going to “The Ranch” it’s them constantly being motivated by Bob and Jillian that gets them going and helps them become successful.  It’s proven each season of the biggest looser and the ones that actually make it to the end of the competition are ridiculously thin because of the constant motivation and inspiration that the trainers have instilled into them.  Sure there are other factors like eating better, etc… but the fact is they have trainers that are helping them and keeping them motivated.  People need that “push” in life to actually get off their ass sometimes and there is nothing wrong with that.

I parallel the biggest looser to my own workout routine and I’ll tell you I am NOT motivated by working out.  However when I work out with someone or if I have a personal trainer helping me then I am motivated and I can keep on going.  One of my biggest goals is to have a personal trainer so they can push me and motivate me to actually work out and be healthy.  I’ll admit that it’s hard to stay motivated and the fact of the matter a lot of people are like that and that’s just human nature.  We all need to be motivated and inspired constantly with whatever we do, it’s what keeps us going.

I can parallel this motivation and inspiration to anything that I do, building this business, working out, my job (which at the present there is no motivation, not because of the business, just the way work is currently), etc… The interesting thing is when I am motivated and inspired I make things happen, however when the motivation is low, I look forward to that next opportunity to be motivated or inspired.  I will seek it out and make it happen, I’ll get around other people that are motivated and in turn I become motivated and again things will happen.  Its quite the cycle however you need to know how to master it, if you don’t then you’ll always end up de-motivated and that could have disastrous effects.

If your not motivated and inspired in your life, THEN GET MOTIVATED AND INSPRIED. Seek it out!

Brad Duncan Edmonton Visit Reflection

Before I even get into the evening let me start with the morning.  I know the last time Brad came to Edmonton people were lined up 9 hours before.  Okay, so I thought maybe going at 5am I’d be first in line and get the front row. Well I was mistakenly WRONG.  There was one person who lined up 28 hours before. You heard right, they lined up at 4pm on Monday afternoon in order to listen to a successful man speak on Tuesday evening at 8pm.  Call it crazy, call it insane, call it what you will but that is dedication.  So was I second? Nope, not even third or fourth in line by the time 5am came around. I was 18th! HAHA.  Yeah I guess the bar has been raised.  I won’t go into the details of the day but it will be one to remember, one to add to our story when we get to tell it.

So how the heck to do I sum up 6 1/2 hours of pure inspiration, success, and motivation?  I can’t.  To be honest I really cannot and there is no way I can do justice with what I’ll say here.  It was something that you had to experience.  What was great about what Brad talked about was it applied to everyone and not just what we do.  There were things Brad said that everyone could apply to their every day life which just shows the kind of servant heart he has.

I think the biggest thing I took away from last night was to not let anyone steal your dream.  What does that mean?  Means no matter what kind of dream or goal you have set for your life don’t let someone tell you that you can’t. ‘Can’t’ is a negative/broke person’s word.  ‘Can’t’ is for the weak minded people that just use excuses for their failures and they try to bring you down by telling you that you cannot do something.  Another thing more related to our business is that every business has negative stuff about it, someone is always willing to write something about anything.  Check out one of the largest companies in the world, Wallmart, and do a quick search on Google about how many law suits they’ve had.  All successful companies have this and Amway Global isn’t the first OR the last.  One more thing I heard that really made sense is when you listen to someone and they say they are exhausted, have a look at their life and I bet they are not prospering or achieving the things they set out in life.  Successful people who are actually moving forward in their life don’t use the excuse of being exhausted.

Now did I agree with everything that Brad said last night? Of course not. I don’t think Brad expects everyone to just follow every single thing he says and again I don’t believe in everything he says and that’s okay.  However I will listen to a lot of what he has to say about this business and how to move forward with my own business.  He’s done it with less product, harder times, less mentorship, less coaching, less everything.  He’s edified our coaching in such an amazing way because our leadership is unlike all others in this industry.  I’ve talked about it before where our leaders are building this with integrity, with honesty and with a great foundation.

There were a lot of great things that Brad talked about and some I’m still processing because there was so much he talked about.  He did a great night owl afterwards where he answered a lot of questions people had.  Questions about his life, his struggles, his vision, people’s specific struggles, and so much more.  Brad has such a huge servant heart and did not have to stay up until 2:30am talking to us that’s for sure.  He does it because he loves it.  You cannot fake 6 1/2 hours that’s for damn sure!
