Know Who Your Getting Into Business With

I believe the biggest thing I’ve learned while researching this business before starting and while being in this business, is know who your partnering up with.  We’ve never ever built business by just signing people up (TIP: that leads to failure) or misleading people into an opportunity this is not (TIP: be open and honest when talking about this business).  In my experience talking with people who used to be in this business and reading about it on the few blogs (NOTE: There are only a few) out there about it is they were in a partnership with someone who didn’t have a lot of integrity.  That’s why we have a qualification process that works both ways.  We are making sure there is a fit with that person just as much as they are seeing if we are a fit for them.  That process could take 6 weeks if need be and until someone has ALL the information required.

I do not believe in sugar coating anything and we make sure to educate a potential business partner with all the levels of business, all costs, and what the time commitments are for each level.  I can only speak to what we do however I’ve heard others don’t give this much information and that’s a shame.  So if your a potential person wanting to get involved, make sure you ask questions.  Don’t let the excitement cloud your judgement (I guess that’s why we extend it to 6 weeks if required)  and make sure you get all the information required to make an educated decision.

We develop a trust and friendship first before going into business with people and it’s that trust and friendship that helps us develop lifelong partnerships.  If you want a stable business without having to rebuilt it year after year, that’s the key.  If you want to rebuilt and struggle to have a stable business then disregard everything I said and just sign people up left and right, see how long you last.  We believe in building a stable and profitable business and we along with our sponsors can show you how.  This business is going to take work, if anyone tells you different they are lying.  The concept is simple yet it takes work and whatever you put in is what you’ll get out.  You cannot expect to sit at your computer and expect money to fly out of it, sorry doesn’t work that way.

Lastly we will never convince anyone to do what we do, and I’ve maintained that through this blog.  In the end, you really need to trust and get to know the person your getting involved with and more importantly you need to like them.  How can you expect to work with people you don’t like?

2010 Year in Review

UnisexBabyI figure after a full calendar year it’s time to do a year review of what we’ve accomplished and what we’ve knocked down personally.  I think the biggest news as most already know is that Lindsay is pregnant and as we move into our second trimester we are getting more and more excited about that.  Later in January we will start to get the baby room in order by painting and decorating in some unisex colours as we are not finding out what sex the baby is until it’s born.  That’s our decision because we feel it’s honestly the last natural surprise left in this world and we want to be surprised.  We’ve had a few names for over a year now if it’s either a boy or a girl so we are covered there.  If it looks like none of those names then we are screwed! lol.  I guess that’s a good problem to have.

The second biggest accomplishment this year has to be getting our personal finances in order.  Having the shackles of debt almost removed feels damn good.  The best thing about what we did with our debt is we took care of it 100% with our own changes and getting some additional perspective, it had nothing to do with any money earned from Amway.  That in it’s self is pretty darn awesome because if we can have 90K in consumer debt along with a mortgage we probably should have never had and pay that down to only $7K by the end of this year, then anyone can do it.  Additionally because we have been on budget and have been paying down debt we were able to have a cash Christmas this year.  So as January and February hit we don’t have to worry about the credit card bills that so many people worry about in these months.  We’ve decided to live WITHIN our means and instead of buying those fancy gifts for friends and family we cannot afford we set our self up a budget for Christmas and stuck with it.  Try it next year, you won’t be sorry.  So what did we pay off in 2010?

  • $30,000 Home Equity Line of Credit Debt
  • $15,000 Car Loan, our 2006 Mazda 3
  • $3,000 Line of Credit ($7,000 Left)
  • $265,000 Mortgage by selling our Condo before the housing market tanked. 1 month after we sold our condo it went down by $20,000.

So we still have a bit of debt left in the original $10,000 line of credit we had when we started paying it off.  It has the lowest interest rate which is why it’s the last to be paid off.  We have $7,000 left to pay off starting in 2011 and plan to have that taken care of right away.  Once we are 100% debt free early in 2011 we plan to start saving up to buy a CUV for the new baby as we need something a bit safer than our Mazda 3.  Lastly as we will be debt free once we start coming into larger bonus cheques or into extra money, we will be able to bless the people we love in many different ways.  The biggest reason why we cannot bless the people we love right now is because we have debt, any extra money we come into we will always look to ourselves and pay that down first.  Without debt we can take our eyes off ourselves and for that I’m VERY excited for.

The third thing which really could have come in second place was us being able to give Lindsay the freedom from her job.  I will go back and change my original statement that’s she’s retired because really she’s not, but what she has been given is the freedom to choose if she wants to work or not. She chooses not to obviously because now she can take care of herself, sleep in as much as she needs to, and do whatever she wants during the day.  Trust me, she’s busy during the day and is not just sitting at home watching Maury.  I fully believe that because she’s been home since the end of August it made it a lot easier for us to get pregnant in October when we started trying in September.  When you have no stress by work, and are relaxed and enjoying life then getting pregnant is much easier.  Sure some people could have other issues, but I’m pretty sure stress is one of the worst things for you.

FreedomFromJob

Lastly our business has really taken off this year with the dedication, hard work, and drive to have something more in our lives than just average.  As I’ve become more successful in my primary daytime job I’ve noticed something that most people who are successful in the traditional job are, and that’s working more.  Since I was promoted to a manager in the fall I’ve been working longer hours and if I look at other people in similar positions they work longer hours as well.  So where does that leave me in the traditional sense?  Sure I’ll get a promotion, maybe paid more money yet when the heck do I have the time to actually do anything with my family?  Spend more time with my family?  The opposite is true, I am actually spending LESS time with my family the more successful I become at my traditional job.  Don’t believe me? Check out your boss, or your boss’s boss and see how much they work, in more cases than none they work much longer hours then you do.  That was a bit of a tangent yet relevant.

We continue building our business with our amazing team and as we start working with the team of amazing people they are bringing on it honestly fulfills us in so many ways.  We’ve seen relationships come close together, we’ve seen engagements and we’ve seen people knock down their own debt all by our example.  I love how we get to impact people in ways a traditional business can never do and that is just one of the many serendipities we get from this business.  Our eyes are never ever on ourselves as we continually help people through this amazing business model that Amway has. We also continually get closer and closer to World Wide Dreambuilders and the traditional values they uphold year in and year out and understand it better and better.  It’s an organization unlike any others that honestly cares about the people it works with, that’s why it’s been around over 30 years.

We’ve maintained the utmost integrity while building our business and I believe that is one of the main reasons why we’ve become as successful as we have.  Yes we work with people and sometimes that is the hardest thing to work with but at the same time it’s also the most rewarding experience.  We will continue to build our business with honesty and integrity and that will set us apart from all the other type of opportunities that are out there.

2010 has been a great year and is just the first of many amazing years for us and our family.  Once 2011 hits I’ll do another blog entry on what we are looking forward to in 2011.  I wish all you and your families much success and prosperity in 2011, make it the best year ever.

What We Do Is Pretty Darn Awesome

I was thinking today as we were launching someone into business in depth that what we do is pretty darn awesome.  Why do I think it’s so darn awesome?  Because unlike most things in life we actually have to take our eyes off ourselves and truly help people.  While there are some products attached to this business it really is a people business.  I know for certain that is one of the major reasons why some people have had a sour taste for Amway.  Amway didn’t screw you over or lie to you, the person who introduced and signed you up into their business did.  I think that’s why in Alberta and Canada things are a bit different for the majority.  I’m not saying everyone, cause I cannot speak for everyone but people building business in our line of sponsorship are doing some pretty awesome things.

We build this people business with the utmost respect and integrity and we don’t just “sign” people up to get into my deal.  There is an information processes that can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months depending on how things go.  We want to work with amazing people that are looking to make changes in their life, people who are coachable and have a good work ethic.  We are not just about trying to get the first person we meet or all our friends into what we do, that’s the un-integrous way of doing things. (Not sure if un-integrous is a word but i’m using it).  It’s funny because when we go to larger functions such as FED or Spring Leadership people ask me or my upline all the time “what is your secret to how you build business?”, the answer is there is no secret.  We are 100% in line with what World Wide Dreambuilders teaches and we don’t second guess or question the system.  We pay full price and have faith and belief in what we are doing.  It’s basic stuff and there is no magic or secret here in Canada.

I love the fact we work with people every day and have to give out instead of always taking in.  To many people in this world are all about what’s in it for me and take take take.  The most successful people in the world are the ones who are thinking about others and not always about themselves.  I love the fact that we have cardinal rules when in reality we should live by these types of rules every day.  Rules like “Never mess with anyone’s spouse” or “Never mess with anyone’s money”, these are just common sense, but at the same time people often over look these kinds of things and that’s when bad things happen.  What business out there stands on traditional principals like these?  Not the company I work for, not a lot of companies and that is why I personally think World Wide Dreambuilders is unique in so many ways.  I didn’t believe this at first as I’ve mentioned I sat on the sideline’s and watched my wife build her business for 5 months while I did my research on all of this.  I do believe 100% and that is why we are moving on and why we are successful and making our business work.  If you believe only 99% then it won’t work, and that’s why people don’t move on, they don’t have the belief.

However the people that we work with every day have that belief and more importantly believe in each other.  So tell me all you want what we are doing is dumb, or won’t work, I honestly don’t care what you did in the past or what your friend’s or parents did before, I believe and that is EXACTLY why our upline and our team are moving onwards and upwards.

Go and Grow!

Earning Business

One thing I love about what we do is that we need to earn people’s business as clients.  We will NEVER guilt people or force people to buy products we have.  I honestly believe the products that we have speak for themselves and are of high quality.  Sure there are a few products that are more expensive, the majority are on par with everywhere else, and some that are less expensive.  That can be said for ANY company and their products.  Heck look at Apple, they have one of the most expensive computers on the market, some say they are top of the line.  You don’t see people complaining about buying them!  Not saying that everyone will buy the top end products but just to compare I think it’s fair.e-commerce

We put on some marketing events like the “Fall Into Autumn” to expose our store and the products we have.  A lot of people have never seen or heard of the products we have or they have have but a long time ago.  Because we are our own business owners we can market however we want and have a lot of fun doing it.  The event we are doing this month is going to be first class, not just your run of the mill PartyLight, Avon, or MarryKay type of event.  So far it’s looking like it’s going to be a packed event and we could not be happier.  I’m pumped to meet people with where they are at and hopefully fill a need if there is a need to fill.  Earn that business.

In the end, if people are not satisfied there is a 180 day money back guarantee, how can you go wrong with that?  Nobody offers that on water! LOL.  Try going to Wal-Mart after drinking all but one bottle and saying “I didn’t like the taste” or “It didn’t hydrate me enough”, Wal-Mart will just laugh at you.  We won’t!
