Investment of Time

InvestingTimeI’ve said before that you reap what you sow and the same can be said for time.  If you invest time you’ll get time back; the reap what you sow concept is so simple yet so many people cannot understand it.  What I love about our business and what we do (at least in this market anyway, I can’t speak for other markets) is that we invest time into people.  We invest time into people and help them become leaders, I sometimes like to think this business we are in is a leadership business.  Officially it’s not (I need to be careful of how I represent this opportunity since I’m sure some people may report me to the Amway police lol).  Unofficially I think it’s a leadership business because we really do build leaders who take control of their lives in all aspects and then help others do the same thing.  I may do a blog post on that later but for now I’ll leave it at that.

Back to what I was getting at, investment of time.  We’ve recently been fortunate to receive coaching and mentorship from our sponsor’s sponsor who coached and mentored them in this business.  They are now investing time into us and helping us to continue building our business and that’s awesome.  Awesome because there is no “the guy”.  We are able to tap into other leaders within this business and earn coaching and mentorship from anyone of them.

I was thinking last night as they were doing an open for our entire organization, that this business is so different from any other business I’ve seen and stands on some pretty phenomenal traditional values and principals.  The amount of respect, transparency, integrity and trust shown in this organization is pretty amazing.  I certainly do not see that in my current job, it’s far far from it.  My job doesn’t invest any time into me, they demand time from me for as little amount of money possible to keep me there.  That’s pathetic because we invest time into our team and honestly expect nothing in return.  If they are not growing or moving on, oh well.  We meet them where they are at and help them in whatever fashion they need.  Some other “opportunities” out there would probably drop those people like its hot and move on, sorry not our opportunity, and that’s what makes our Amway opportunity stand the test of time.  If people are moving on in a big way then we applaud that and help them continually grow and help them where they need it.

We develop honest relationships with these people and ENJOY investing our own time into them because they deserve it and want that helping hand.  Like I said we help them in all areas, not just this business and that’s why I think we develop leaders and what sets us apart.  They are able to learn from that and help others do the same, that’s just one aspect of a leader and something I’m pretty proud of.

Take a look where your investing your time these days and ask yourself are you reaping what your sowing?

Everest

Today was our final day with our internal Leadership Training course and it was a great course as far as internal training goes.  I was able to take away a few nuggets to help out with my job and also some nuggets that will help in building our business.  We saw a great video today called Everest which told the story of Erik Weihenmayer who was the first blind person to climb Everest.  Pretty amazing eh?

One thing I love about this story was how people said he was crazy and that it was impossible for him to do it.  Sounds like a familiar story I hear on occasion from those negative people about what we do.  Telling us it’s impossible for us to make money or be successful in what we are doing.  One thing that Erik did that we do is surround ourselves with people who believe in the vision we have and share the same ideas. Sound familiar? Yeah it’s a success principal, you are a product of your association.  If you believe in your vision no matter what the naysayers say you will become successful in anything you do.

Climbing Mt. Everest is one of the hardest things to do and I’ll relate that in principal to what we are doing.  I’ve always maintained that what we do is the hardest thing we’ve ever done however the prize is well worth it.  Price and Prize always correlate.  Check out the preview video below which is such an inspiration in itself.

Some interesting stats on Mt. Everest:

  • World’s highest mountain above sea level at 8,848 metres or 29,029 ft.
  • $25,000 for a climbing permit
  • Since 2009 216 people have died
  • 60 million years old
  • 10% of the people who climb Everest make it to the top
  • 1 in 6 people who attempt to climb Mt. Everest die

Climbing Mount Everest blind, think it’s impossible? Think again!

Leadership

leadership I’ve been thinking about leadership over the last few days and some of the things I’ve been reading and some of the things people have been talking about.  Leadership is a tricky thing and always open to people that want to discredit you or bring you down however on the flip side you also set an example and the things you do are the things that will be duplicated, good or bad.

I think I’ve been a natural leader ever since I was a little kid and even more so as I grew up in Hockey as I ended up being the Captain of a few teams I played on.  Even back then when I was captain there were parents and coaches who tried to strip that away from me because I fell into a slump.  Yeah the politics of hockey are NASTY.  I remember is like it was yesterday, I had made the Bantam AA team in Sherwood Park and was captain of the team that year.  I feel into a slump 1/2 way into the season and the jackass coaches (who really never liked me in the first place but had to keep me because of my skill level) wanted to strip my ‘C’.  I told them no, I’ll pull out of it, knowing full well they would not give it back to me.  I found out later a lot of the parents didn’t like me either because they felt their kids should have been Captian. Wow talk about politics. Don’t miss that.

That was a bit of a tangent, not sure where i was going with that but being a leader is tough work and eyes are always on you.  It’s what you do when the eyes are on you that really defines a leader.  As we continue to grow in this business more and more eyes will be on Lindsay and I and the things that we do from this blog, to what we talk about, to what our actions are, are always under a watchful eye of many people including our team and the future people our team brings on.

This business is all about duplication which is why its important that we duplicate a successful franchise and is exactly what we’ve been taught from our leaders and mentors.  It’s what we are teaching our new up and coming leaders so they can duplicate and so on and so forth.  What you do as a leader will be duplicated so we need to make sure that the example we are giving is something we want in our business.  I’ve been thinking about this blog and how it represents a lot of what we are going through in this business and talks about our ups and downs and one of our cardinal rules is “don’t pass negative/challenges down-line”.  What that means is if your having a bad day or what not it’s not something you want to pass down to your team, you want to be that example to them and yes while you can have crappy days, talk with your upline about them.  If your having a bad day and your team knows about it, maybe there is something they wanted to talk to you about but if your in a bad mood or what not they won’t want to bother you with their problem.  So set the example.

One person I highly respect on the subject of leadership is John Maxwell. http://www.johnmaxwell.com/.  He is the world’s leader on leadership and has some pretty amazing books and audio on it.  I’m really looking forward to reading “The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership” where I can pick up more great info on leadership and how to be that example.  Its a blessing that John Maxwell gives his time to World Wide Dreambuilders because he knows the kind of leaders that are being built within this group.  He only endorses two companies, WWDB and Chick-Fil-A.  LOL i’m not what what Chick-Fil-A has but that’s pretty sweet.  I know he’s been to Edmonton a few times and if you ever get a chance to listen to John, make an effort to see him.

Spring Leadership Day 3 – Final Day

Well we are on the bus ride home after a nice little stop at Jack in The Box…Hey we don’t have that in Canada and we all needed a good fix.  So the bus ride home will probably be interesting and a bit smelly.  That’s okay Brad Ducan said we don’t judge people, even people who fart :) haha.

ANYWAY… What an amazing weekend.  Full of great teachings by John Maxwell on connecting with people as I’ve written about before. Some great motivation by all the leaders in this business from Double Eagle Ruby up to Crown.  Lastly some great association time with some of our up line being able to answer questions or just to say hi.  Something I have not really written about yet this weekend is that association.  One of the best parts of these functions is getting around my up line leaders and asking them whatever questions I have or sharing with them what’s on my heart especially with Mike and Brandie.

Mike and Brandie spoke today on stage as new Emeralds and have spoken at all four Spring Leadership locations. However today was their “home town” site in Spokane.  The amount of people that are being impacted by Mike and Brandie in this organization is off the charts.  They are building a huge business but not only a huge business but a business of leaders.  This is something unseen in any other market within World Wide Dreambuilders and probably in Amway Global.  The reason?  They actually care about the people in their business and actually want to impact people in a huge way.  They want to help people build amazing friendships and relationship and help people achieve greatness.  They are not about the money, or about the flashy things in life.  Its impacting families, impacting parents, impacting the people they meet.  It’s really hard to explain, but when you see them talk compared to other emeralds you really get a sense of who they are.

Canada, specifically Alberta is building a huge huge new brand of leaders.  People have criticized there are no new diamonds or leaders in this business and there is nothing wrong with that.  Growth is not always on the rise.  A healthy business always has its ups and downs and World Wide Dreambuilders is on the rise again.  Mark my words there will be people from our area and other areas going into Diamond Qualification.  The people on the outside who are no longer building this business have no idea.

So what was the biggest thing I took away from…(oh I have to share what I took away from this business to everyone on the bus…) Okay so that was a bit longer than a few minutes.  Everyone on the bus just shared what they thought of the function and what they took away from it.  So So impactful.  I think we just shared for 4-5 hours.  Where else on this planet do people talk about their dreams, goals and deep heartfelt thoughts on their life and where they want to go?? That does not happen normally.  It’s so impactful.

Going back to the original thing I was saying about what I took away.  I took away leadership and connecting with people as my main points.  I will be a leader in this business alongside Clay and Mike.  I will be helping build strong leaders in our organization and it’s these leaders that will be impacting other people in such positive ways.  It will also be these leaders that keep me inspired to carry on and continue to personally grow.  What a feeling that is, to know that you will be able to impact people in a great way.  I’m sorry but I don’t know any other business out there that can do this.

So what’s next?  Well “Moving Up” is next and Family Reunion where we will be Double Eagles.  OH YEAH!  Time to catch some Zzzz’s on this bus before going back to the J.O.B. later this morning. BOOooooOOOO!

March Regional Rally Reflection

Narcissistic Eagle What a way to spend to spend Saturday afternoon and evening with some pretty amazing people.  What do I mean when I say amazing?  I’m talking about people who are living a debt free lifestyle and not living the “I want it now” attitude, people who are genuine and just want to help people get out of debt and want to have people experience the dreams and goals they’ve always wanted.  Amazing people that give back in so many different ways to the community, less fortunate, and those deserving.  World Wide Group has these type of amazing people and that’s why I choose to associate with them.

There is no other company on the planet that cares so much about the following:

Marriages, family oriented, association, unified, great leadership, covenant leadership, focus’s on cardinal rules, dream focused, diversified, foundation, incentives, knowledge, debt free, the list goes on and on and on.

There is a reason I put marriages and family oriented first and second.  Above all else Marriages and Family life are the top priorities for World Wide Group.  I can tell you my job and your job do NOT put those priorities ahead of all other.  They put the $ above everything else and quite frankly that’s BS.

Listen to this amazing mission statement:

World Wide Dreambuilders Mission Statement

To provide opportunity, education, training, motivation and the right environment through a Free Enterprise System.

To encourage a life of excellence, with “No Regrets” while partnering with each associate around the world in building their own personal business and dreams.

To impact our generation and generations to come within the truth that God created man for greatness.

Now THAT is a mission statement.  I am damn proud to be associated with World Wide dreambuilders because it is through this association that we will truly become free parents so that we can build an amazing future together with our family.  It’s being associated with World Wide that will allow us to give this amazing opportunity to other people that we encounter and help them realize and understand their dreams and goals can come true and are not dictated by the size of their paycheque.

Events like this happen every quarter and then there are also three major events that happen through the year and it’s these events that help us instil belief.  Belief is the acceptance of a fact, opinion or assertion as real or true.  That is why we believe 100% in this business because we’ve seen the truth and the facts, despite what the naysayer’s or quitters say.

Really looking forward to Brad Duncan coming to Edmonton April 13th and then Spring Leadership towards the end of April.  Going to be a great month and a bit coming up!!
