Christmas in November

20111125_200419While we don’t do that many marketing events, the one marketing event I look forward to each year is the Christmas in November.  Its a great way to expose a lot of the products that we have and educate all the current and future customers.  There is a very large focus on the Ribbon collection and I have to say I’m quite impressed with that collection this year.  They’ve really stepped it up with some great well known brands and quality products.

This year I was voluntold by my wife that I’d be Santa.  This is the first time I’ve ever dressed up as Santa and well it’s pretty uncomfortable filling in the big guy’s shoes.  However when some of the kids came up and wanted a candy cane and really thought I was Santa, that made the fears go away and I got into it.  To see the kids eyes light up was an amazing feeling.

I have to say a huge thank you to our sponsors who put on the event and our team that worked with the other teams to man their station of edibles.  The edibles were a huge success as people love the various bars we have.  There were facial stations, hand and arm massage stations, make over stations, health stations and so much more.  A huge success with the amount of guests that showed up and comments made.  It was a first class event.

Shopping for Baby Stuff

baby-shopperSaturday Lindsay and I went shopping for baby stuff to start grasping just how much this little tyke is going to cost us.  This stuff is quite expensive if your looking for new stuff, however as some know my Scottish heritage will always find the good deals out there. :D

There are tons of stores in Edmonton such as E-Children, Babies R Us, Baby Sam, etc…  I actually remember Baby Sam from long ago when my good friends Kyle and Erron where shopping there and they needed a truck to haul their new stuff home.  At that time I was nowhere near ready to have kids and didn’t even think I’d be doing that type of shopping anytime soon.  Well fast forward what, 8 years and now I’m doing the same thing they were. Pretty darn exciting.  We cannot wait to get the baby room all decorated and painted towards the end of this month.  One quick note, we are not finding out the sex of the baby, so most of our decorating will be gender neutral.  Lindsay found a pretty sweet crib sheet and comforter set which will be perfect for either a girl or boy.

One of the things we are excited about though is paying for our baby stuff in cash and not going into debt for it.  Trust me this will probably be much harder than buying a vehicle and wanting to pay for it in cash. Why?  Because it’s your child!  You want to buy the best for them and sometimes we let that get the best of us and do ridiculous things.  I’m thankful for the friends we have in our life and the association of people that also think going into debt isn’t a smart idea, even if it’s buying stuff for your kids.  We’ve got lots of examples of upline, crossline and friends who are paying for baby stuff in cash and are not going into debt and I love that example.  It’s quite powerful.  Don’t misunderstand me those examples are not *just* in this business, they are out there but just harder to find because we as Canadians live a carefree debt lifestyle, so much so the government has to step in and change mortgage rules to stop us from being stupid. (Check out Garth Turner’s Perspective on that).

Anyway this is just another example of places where people can get carried away. Stop, check yourself and your finances and make sure your doing the right thing.  Go shopping, find out the costs of things, and then save up for them and pay it in cash. Stop doing what every other Canadian does and thinking debt is cool, it’s not. It only hurts you and your family in the long run.

Cafe Christmas Marketing Event

Lots of People Christmas ShoppingWow, we just had a Christmas Marketing evening this evening, well yesterday night as I write this at 1:15am.  We had 460 people turn out for the Edmonton Christmas Event.  We had different boths, Nutrilite, Legacy of Clean, an Artistry Facial Centre, and a bunch of other booths showing the type of products we have, the Ribbon Gift Cards and so so much more.

It’s so awesome to see the traction building here in Edmonton.  A lot of people came out to see that we are not a bunch of weird people, we are not a cult, we have great products that have a great price and are BETTER then what you can get from all those other stores you have to wait in line at.  Once people actually see that we are just selling products that you buy anyway they totally get it.  A lot of the people have already seen the plan or maybe they are just shopping for Christmas gifts, but they just get it.  They realize the time saved by not having to get in a car, drive down to the store, sift through all the rows of product, wait in line, and then have to drive home.  They can get all these awesome products right from the comfort of their living room.

One quick think about the market here in Edmonton, Brad Duncan mentioned when he was here a few weeks ago that he’s not seen the World Wide Dreambuilder / Amway Global business take shape as it is here.  It’s the hard work and qualification process that is really pumping out solid teams with hardly anyone backing out or quitting.  We don’t want 98%’ers, we want the 2%’ers, the winners, the people who have a need, want and desire in life to make something for themselves.

I just have to say tonight was such a great event put on by the Wagners they are such great people, great coaches and great mentors.  Showing us this business really does work!
