Online Reputation

online-reputation-Online reputation is if not already, becoming a big deal.  So a lot of organizations are looking to protect their image from bad press or even untrue information portrayed about them.  With some of the IT associations I belong to this is starting to become a bigger and bigger concern and more and more talked about.  Social Media is playing a huge role in the creation or destruction of reputations and managing these reputations is vital for many organizations.

Todd Woodward recently joined Amway as Vice President, Global Amway Brand and Public Relations and has some pretty high credentials from past employers.  University of Notre Dame, Weber Shandwick Worldwide, Harley Davidson and the National Milk Processor Board.  I’m glad to see someone like Todd take over this position as I’m sure he will take Amway’s reputation and only increase it as it already is.

Just doing some searching on Amway or even World Wide Dreambuilders has changed since I first started.  There are many companies that help repair reputations and remove old or negative publicity and it seems like Amway is making strides there.  I don’t blame them as people that hide behind anonymous or alias’s really don’t lend much credibility to be honest.  Why hide?  If you believe 100% in what you talk about then you should be able to use a real name, at least that’s my opinion.

Today’s blog post on the Amway Insider was a good one that talked about online reputation management and some thoughts from Todd about Direct Selling Companies and Amway.  This comment really resonated with me because I really do believe this to be true at least with our business. “Direct selling is the most human of businesses. . . we believe that helping humans – not companies – to be successful is a world-changing approach. Translating that online is critical to improving our reputation”. While some may think it’s crazy to think a business like ours helps “humans”, it’s the people who are crazy enough to think that that actually make it happen.  We help others become successful before we become successful and that’s very fulfilling.  If you can serve others before you serve yourself you will become successful. Don’t believe me? Ask people like Warren Buffet, John Maxwell, or anyone that is very successful, they got there because they served others first and that’s exactly what we do.

Just today I had two different counsel sessions with different members of our team.  They had various questions, some business related some non-business related and I didn’t get paid for those two hours.  I could have used that time to do something else however  I served on them because they needed me, they needed to talk to me about whatever was on their mind or heart.  That’s just one way of how you serve others and do exactly what Todd was talking about, “helping humans”.  I love that quote.

A Few Changes–Social Media for IBOs

Amway released a new guide to all IBO’s called “Using Social Media for Your Amway Business” and it’s a pretty good document.  After reading it over I’ll be making a few changes moving forward on some things I probably shouldn’t have been doing like using logo’s or product pictures.  Its a hard one to enforce since you do a quick Google Image search and you’ll see thousands of images out there using the logos and products however I’ll be changing that moving forward.

It’s a great guide and very well done, long overdue in my opinion.  It talks about the hard rules up front about what you can and cannot do and how the Rules of Conduct apply to social media.  It also talks about some of the “unwritten rules” social-media-bandwagonthat will help people succeed when using social media with their Amway business.  The best unwritten rules from that was "”Be transparent, authentic and honest”, it really shouldn’t even be an unwritten rule because that’s just how people should be.  Kinda sad it has to be written down for people to get it.

It continues on with Product talk, Opportunity talk and a few other topics all which were very helpful.  If your an IBO and you’ve stumbled across my site please do check it out.  Since these are “Guidelines for Amway Independent Business Owners” you’ll need to be an IBO and log in to check out the document.

Stop Watching @$%#& Lost!

An acquaintance of mine @paulletourneau who is a fellow entrepreneur posted this link previously today on Twitter.  It’s by Gary Vaynerchuck who has become very successful with Wine Library and does Wine Video Blogs.  Check it out here –> http://tv.winelibrary.com/

While this video is a few years old I really love the ending portion of how you can build whatever you want in those evening hours.  It starts around the 14:20 mark. This is the best quote from the whole video: “You start building your equity and your brand and whatever your trying to accomplish after hours.  Everybody has time, stop watching F’ing Lost!”.  It’s funny because I say the same thing when I present the board plan.  I leave our the F-bombs but all wealth, all equity, all success is created AFTER HOURS.  So many people are not willing to give up their precious T.V. watching hours to make the change to create a legacy for their life.  They’d rather sit in front of the T.V. and waste their life away creating nothing, and yet complaining how life sucks, I have no money, my marriage is falling apart, blah blah blah.

I’ve never said this business we create is for everyone or push it on anyone, however it is a business that is working for us, and will create that legacy for generations to come.  We are using that “7pm to 2am” as Gary talks about to create our wealth and we are doing just that.  I suggest you check out this video and if your looking for a change in your life, take some of the nuggets out of it and apply them to your life.  You may be surprised at the results.  Success is success no mater what arena you apply it to, maybe start applying it to your life.

Social Media Revolution

I’m excited to see how Amway is going to utilize the Social Media Revolution to its advantage.  I came across this link via Bridgett which somewhat taps into that.
