Spring Leadership Day 1

Yesterday was Day 1 of the Spring Leadership conference in Spokane.  It’s also the first function that we as Eagle Leaders get to sit on the floor instead of the bleachers.  Quite a different experience when you are sitting on the floor in a bit more comfy seats so that you can really engage with the speaker.  Being that close its as if the speakers are talking directly to you.  Front row baby!  Team Alberta is all about front row mentality and pretty much all the front row tables and front row bleachers were Team Alberta or people from Canada.

So John Maxwell was pretty awesome.  He spoke about how everyone communicates yet nobody really connects.  Its really true if you think about it.  He taught 5 connecting principals on how to connect better with people you are communicating with.  I won’t go into detail on them but here are the 5 main points:

  1. Increase your influence in every situation.
  2. Connecting is all about others
  3. It goes beyond the words
    1. What you say is about 7%
    2. How you say it is 35%
    3. What others see as we say it 59%
  4. Requires energy

Those are pretty high level and there are much more notes to go with that but this is just a sampling of some of the teaching.  Can you read this in a book? Sure.  But when someone engages and teaches you about it, it’s qute different then just reading it.

A few of the diamonds spoke about a few other topics but really the biggest thing for me was John Maxwell.  He’s an amazing speaker and how he delivers what he says is so important.

People pay hundreds of dollars and companies pay thousands of dollars for John to come speak to them.  We get him for a FRACTION of that cost.  That’s pretty sweet.  World Wide Group is one of two companies that John will endorse.  That’s pretty awesome.

Anyway time to get back into line.  Day 2 starts soon!

Finally Arrived in Spokane

We arrived later this morning and after checking in had a little nap.  We are getting ready for the first evening session where the doors open at 6pm.  I’m excited to experience this function sitting on the floor with the other eagles.

I was thinking about why we are here and what we are going to get out of this and yes a lot of it will be motivation, some teachings and lastly some inspiration.  Now is there anything wrong with motivation?  Last time I checked no.  Also last time I checked going to something motivational costs a heck of a lot more then $125 for a ticket.  I’ve seen and experienced first hand the power of a function and how it helps instill belief and helps jumps starts you to move forward.  Sometimes people need a jump start, sometimes people don’t.  Either way this is a pretty SMALL price to pay in my mind to help move your business forward.  We’ve seen it. We went from 0 people in our organization to 6 people within 3 months.  I’d say that’s moving on.

Now again these are my experiences with this function and there are some people out there that like to quote me or say I’m just “drinking the juice” or following whatever my upline says.  I’m sorry but I’m my own business and I do what I please thank you very much.  I never said once I am a blind follower, NOT ONCE.  I do what I feel is best for our business and if I were to find something didn’t benefit my business well then I wouldn’t do it.

So anyway as we move forward this weekend I am really pumped to listen to some amazing speakers, listen to some amazing motivation and inspiration so that I can take that and apply it to my business and move it forward.  That’s what I’m excited for.  Probably won’t post again until either late or early morning tomorrow.

Enjoy your weekend whatever your doing!

The Drive Contiunes

We are in Cranbrook after going through a snow storm and a few other hairy areas along the drive.  I guess our bus driver “isn’t used to night driving” lol. To funny.  However It’s 7:10am right now MST and we have a around 3 more hours to go until we hit Spokane.

I see some people have already started to comment, I’m not surprised really.  Glad I have made a few people think about what they are doing this weekend.  Regardless if it’s “just being motivated” or spending time with family or working.  Whatever you are doing this weekend, enjoy it!

More to come…

Enroute to Spring Leadership

We just left the parking lot of Home Depot in South Edmonton Common enroute to Spring Leadership.  There are close to 800 people from the Alberta area that are going to take over the Spokane Arena!

Now this is the first time I’ve been on a bus in this capacity.  Usually I’ve attended such bus trips with Downhill Riders to go skiing and the booze is flowing, the music is pumping and it’s just a good old time.  However this time we won’t be drunk we will be high on positive energy to be honest.  We are on a bus full of people that are excited, pumped up, moving forward in life and just ready to soak up some leadership training.  It’s quite a feeling when you associate with successful like minded people.  It really is.  I never thought I would be this excited or this motivated being around people like this.  Such a great feeling!

So I gotta ask, what are you doing this weekend to move your life forward?

Preparing For Next Weekend

SPL Next weekend is a major function called Spring Leadership.  Think of it as a conference that your work would send you on for some Microsoft Conference or some Oil and Gas conference.  A conference that usually would usually cost around $3000-$4000 and really get you nothing but some information on some products you may or may not use, or some cheap ass trade show t-shirts, pens, etc… It will cost us $125 to attend this 3 day function and I can tell you after attending Free Enterprise Day’s that $125 dollars is worth it for what you get out of this conference.  To be fair there are other costs like the bus we are taking down with a bunch of other owners, the hotel cost and some food.  All tax write off’s and minor compared to what I know I’ll get out of this.

Spring Leadership is one of 4 major functions that we choose to attend not because there is a gun to our heads saying we HAVE to attend, but because we feel it’s worth it to get around the amazing leadership, the awesome teachings from someone such as John Maxwell which is one of the best speakers on leadership.  There will be other leaders in what we do speaking and teaching on their success and their story.

What I’m really excited about is our coaches will be speaking in front of 10,000 people as well as a few other people from Alberta.  When I say Alberta, Canada is a booming market, the strongest and fastest market in all of World Wide Group, I’m not kidding.  There is a reason for that.  Mike and Brandie Wagner are one of the major reasons for that and I am honored to be coached by them who are new Emeralds. They are building business in a way that is unseen in World Wide and Amway Global.  This is just one of the reasons as to why I love what we are doing and why all the negative out there really doesn’t phase me in the least.  We are doing things with integrity and that is what is going to change the face of what we do.  Just wait.

So yeah back to Spring Leadership I am pumped for it because this will be the first Major Function besides Dream Night that we will be sitting on the floor because we achieved the level of Eagle.  That means no more lining up hours before hand and then racing down the stairs to get good seat as so many people have done before.  I’m pumped to just get some motivation, some positivity, some association and some teaching that we will apply to our business and continue to make it larger through integrity and great friendship.

I hope for those who are reading this and are actually in the business you experience Spring Leadership for your own reasons and are not forced or made to feel guilty about it.  If you do go, ENJOY it!

EDIT: Just realized it’s the following weekend not next!  Must be excited.
