Do you have vertical alignment in your life? You may say maybe, what do you mean by vertical alignment? Vertical alignment is basically a set of priorities that you follow in life by order. It’s the things in life that important to you and in what order they fall. They are non-negotiable items that you will prioritize your life around and if something comes into your life that is not on that list then you need to see if it’s important enough to change the order of things you currently have. Below is my personal vertical alignment and the things that are important in my life.
- Morals (Integrity) – These are the morals that we live by each day and to me the top item in my vertical alignment. I put
Integrity in brackets because it’s one of the most important morals that I live by. I live life with integrity and what I say is what I will do. It actually falls in line with the Guthrie’s motto of “Sto Pro Veritate” which means “I stand for truth”. I am very proud of my Scottish heritage and I intend to live a life full of integrity. - Lindsay – I think this one is pretty self explanatory. My wife is single handily the most important thing in my life. There is no backdoor on our marriage and we are 110% committed to each other. What’s amazing is that we get to build our life together in a business that will help us achieve the dreams and goals that we’ve set out together. A unified couple moving together in life is unstoppable and I could not be happier to be building an amazing marriage and life together with her.
- Job – For now my job needs to be high on the list because its what is my main source of income. The great thing about the business we are building on the side is the success principals that I am learning can easily be applied to my job as I am a leader in my job as a Team Lead. If I have to be there for a couple of more years then why not improve my leadership skills and apply them to my job and make it a little easier on me.
- Family – Family is one of the main reasons why we are building this business. Family is critically important to me because in the end who do you have that supports you? Your family. I want to build a strong family and spend time with that family and not just on weekends and holidays. We plan on having a large family and what we are doing will allow for that and we could not be more excited for that fact.
- Coaches and Mentors – Our coaches and mentors are almost as important as family because it is them that will help us through this business by teaching us the things that worked for them and helping us avoid the mistakes they had. We wouldn’t be very successful if we said here you go, here is your business, call me if you need something. These people are important to us not only because of this business but the friendships that we are building with them. These are friends we will have for life and building a business together is just icing on that cake. Integrity is high on my list here and the people here are of very high integrity which is why we associate with them and want to build a relationship with them. The mentoring portion of this is getting around the people that have the marriages and relationships that we want and them helping us achieve greatness in those areas.
- Business – CORE – Our business is what will allow us to achieve those dreams and goals we have set out for ourselves. By being Core we’ve seen first hand the success it’s brought by us going Eagle. As we continue to be Core our Double Eagle-ship is taking shape and will continue to help us move forward. Along with all of that, we now have a team that we are able to sow into and help them do what we’ve done and help them build even bigger business’s then ours. We know a few couples will because of the high quality people they are and we could not be happier.
- Health – 1/2 Marathon – Lastly my health is important to me and part of that is training for a 1/2 marathon. While this has nothing to do with our business it is important to me to stay in shape. I make time out of the meet and greets we do, the investment into our team, the board plans, functions, etc… A goal of mine is to complete the Intact Edmonton 1/2 Marathon as I was unable to last year because of my foot. I start training for this May 24th for 16 weeks where I will then complete 21.1 KM’s (13.11 Miles for my American friends). I am pumped for this not only for the accomplishment but for the fact I will be in amazing shape when it comes time to do the race.
